Choose a bounded task
Begin with a task whose purpose, inputs, and expected outputs are clear. Answering approved logistical questions is a different task from interpreting a participant’s individual circumstances.
Keep review specific
Name the person who owns the approved content and the person who handles exceptions. “Human oversight” becomes useful when those responsibilities are explicit.
Create an exit to a person
Test what happens when the assistant cannot answer, receives unexpected information, or is asked to go beyond its role. A participant should have a clear route to human help.
Inspect the interaction
Review examples with your team. Ask whether the record captures enough context to understand what was said, what happened next, and who acted.
Reassess when the study changes
Protocol changes, new languages, and new channels can change the task. Review the workflow again before extending automation into a different context.
